Anxiety And Depression

Who is afraid! *

Anxiety is an imbalance. When one is following the heart, the essence, the soul, the center of consciousness, cause, or pathway, one is in balance and honoring what they are. They can have visions, be tuned-in to their feelings, and realize their dreams. This clarity is from the heart.

When one is not following the intelligence of the heart, the choice is a choice of dis-empowerment. They are tuned-in to the intellect of their mind which can conceive what the heart presents as an interesting theory to think about. The mind is then conceptualizing and has the tendency to shade, filter, and get in the way of the heart’s knowing. Intellectualizing a knowing energy into a mental belief system separates and disempowers the direct inner knowing that could otherwise be acknowledged.

The separation of believing from knowing establishes an incoherency and the believer becomes out of balance.  Not being clear nor coherent, the believer disregards the relationship between the heart energy and the reactions of the mind. This imbalance is a quality of anxiety. In summary, being grounded in the heart, the mind has access to authentic clarity, balance, and harmony.

Knowing is not doubting. Balancing the mind through the clarity of the heart and continuously  expressing this through physical action is living a harmonious life.  To live the heart's pathway takes daily action and commitment, releasing the fear of survival and embracing the power of living, which includes dying. Holding the fear of survival in one's mind blocks the portal to receiving and living life to the fullest - living with joy, with contentment and being able to experience the bounty of life.

Procrastination is a form of anxiety. Taking intermittent action, infrequently talking about changing, and waiting for “the universe” or some other rescuer to do something about “it” are not only anxiety provoking actions, they are symptoms of unresolved physical, emotional, mental, and or spiritual trauma.

Past unresolved defensive orienting responses to threat, contained in a trauma, transmit energies throughout the physical body and into the psycho-emotional field in the following ways:

  • Unresolved and immobilized flight responses transmits fear signals
  • Unresolved and immobilized fight responses transmits anger signals
  • Unresolved and immobilized freeze responses transmits numb signals

Anxiety precedes depression. Anxiety is a conditioning of suppressed fears which, when not resolved, are systemically compressed, leading to depression and further physical and psychological disorders. In truth there is no escape from this cycling of disturbance, distress, and disorder, only resolution. Therefore, it is important to understand and heal anxiety as the basis to healing many disorders and dysfunctions.

Depression commonly manifests physically, through stomach pains, headaches, disrupted or excessive sleep, and motor control difficulty.

The initial and major cause of depression is the suppression of one’s authentic nature, one's individual essence of being, one's innate intelligence as discussed above.  Cultural socialization processes program minds and bodies to filter out, shade over and block out the individual's expression of authentic passion. For instance, intrinsic joy for life may be suppressed due to unresolved situational anxiety or the accumulation of fear memories, or both.  What could have been one's delight becomes a shadow of one's potential. Collectively this shadow diminishes families, communities, and cultures. Enlightenment is an individual choice, not a group process, yet many do not seek their own innate intelligence.

Depression

All internalized psychic action uses vital life force energies resulting in a de-energized, immobilized, and depressed mind and body. It may be that a sufferer is unaware that they are depressed due to a strong persona or ego. This then is an unconscious depression.

As with all diseases, whatever realm of consciousness you experience generates a similar brain wave frequency.

Also, if a predisposition for depression runs in a family it can most certainly be triggered by unresolved traumatic events, neglect, and adverse life circumstances. Such a potential for triggering is due to the quantities and qualities of the pressures that strain the biological and social systems. Suppressive, compressive and depressive actions affect and effect the bio-systems of the individual and the family.

Depressed people are also at increased risk for self-harm. Counselling, EMDR, Somatic Experiencing, Ayurveda and Family Counselling  can be used to treat depression by many methods such as doshic balancing, cleansing routines, family strategies and re-structuring for overall health.

Anxiety and Depression often exacerbate each other and people with depression commonly have difficulty concentrating on tasks and conversations. Some people abuse alcohol and drugs or overeat as a way of coping, causing them to develop other medical problems. Coping is not recommended as a means of treatment. Resolution is recommended as strategy for healing.

Depression is a mental illness which is characterized by prolonged suppressed emotional energies creating symptoms including:

·         Apathy

·         Sadness

·         Guilt

·         Exhaustion

·         Irritability

Diagnosing depression involves a psychiatric evaluation and physical tests to determine whether a person’s symptoms are being caused by a different disorder. A person must have been experiencing symptoms for at least two weeks to be diagnosed with depression. Every case is unique and requires individual attention, but there are several effective complementary ways of treating depression, including:

  • Talk therapy
  • EMDR
  • Somatic Experiencing
  • Medication
  • Adopting a healthier lifestyle through Ayurvedic treatments

*  I am exclaiming here that "who" (your persona) is afraid. I suggest that you sense, feel, and know the difference between “Who," as a conditioned and  programmed self, and "What," as the Innate you.
