Ayurveda (the science of life and the life of science) approaches the treatment to health on the basis that everyone has a unique composition of energies and consciousness, and also that you as an indivisible individual are transcendent of the faculties of your body and your mind.
Ayurveda is not limited to physical or psychological dimensions. Ayurveda considers many levels of consciousness including environmental, physical, social, familial, behavioral, intellectual, emotional, pranic, spiritual, transcendental, causal, and a universal continuum of consciousness. A language of ayurvedic anatomy integrates these levels of consciousness and is found within the vedic scriptures which are thousands of years old. These vedic writings can be considered as an account of the indigenous medicine of India rising from the integration of humanity with the earthly environments consisting of the universal elements of space, air, fire, water, and earth.
Health in the ayurvedic perspective occurs by generating and organizing positive healing practices that remedy and prevent imbalances and disorders which lead to disease and distress. Destroying these imbalances through an individualized and multi-dimensional approach is undertaken in generating and organizing a healthy lifestyle.
Ayurvedic Modalities consist of the healing powers of:
- Daily Routines including oral hygiene; cleansing of the eyes, nasal passages, ears, sinuses, and throat; nourishing one’s skin, hair, and nails.
- Stress Management via meditation; using the senses for healing (Tanmatra Chikitsa) music, sound healing, chanting; aromatherapy; breathing exercises (Pranayama) in taking charge of the vital energies; focusing and sensing exercises; relaxation exercises, stretching exercises and yoga, ayurvedic bodywork, massage and marma therapy.
- Cleansing Routines through a natural diet to suit an individual's unique composition (Prakriti) which includes: therapeutic nutritional supplements; healing herbs and botanical remedies; detoxification through Pancha Karma; Ayurvedic counseling and health education aimed to revitalize and recover from addictions and co-dependencies.
- Special Seasonal Routines that assist to adapt to the environmental qualities of the seasons, which include many of the modalities stated above to balance the individual qualities of the doshas with seasonal qualities.
- Rejuvenation (Rasayana) through transcending a dis-ease of the mind (such as "growing old") that is altering the body, into healthy processing of aging as a liberating and enlightening spiritual journey of rebirthing now.
