Integrating Therapies

"Follow the teaching and not the teacher."

I overheard this statement being said by one of my teachers to a fellow student. This was a principle in my life for many years before that time yet I did not have the clarity of understanding until I heard it said in that way, at that time. Having known that principle and practiced it innately, my teacher's words resonated with what I knew to be so. Such is the way of integrating knowledge with knowing.

In observing my own innate intelligence, I witness it flowing from individual consciousness, clarifying and integrating knowledge gained from my studies and experiences. This integration of knowing with knowledge assembled a set of resolute skills for me personally and professionally. This set of skills allows me to offer assistance to others in my clinical practice to empower their own innate wisdom and healing energies. The collaborative approach that I use integrates therapies within a process of mutual exploration, the client's and mine, into what is "happening now" in the session room regarding the client's needs, their environment, their actions, and their responses.

Together we are mutually integrating knowledge with knowing in both the client and the practitioner. This provides for a powerful exchange in the exploration of authentic flowing energies in the journey of healing. It is from such attention to integration that understanding and awareness springs forth, cleansing and nourishing the empowering process of vitalization. These collaborative energies are supported by love and light which carry innate and subtle information providing insight for healing.

What is this collaborative process in healing?

In some instances, an empowering collaboration is like a journey, where a traveler hires a guide to assist, not only to reach a destination with confidence, but as well to enrich, enlighten, and support the depth of experiencing the journey.

Sometimes an empowering collaboration is educational.  A willing, committed student may long for a teaching to gain competency of a skill so as to be unconsciously skilled. To be a practitioner is an ongoing teaching unto oneself.

Sometimes an investing collaboration is focusing upon supplying a missing or unrecognized resource that will restore the connection to one's vitality. Perhaps the client is seeking order from disorder, function from dysfunction, or healing from pain and suffering, and awakens to the bonding connection of the universal and individual flowing energies of innate intelligence. Claiming a recovered resource can regulate and support the healing process.

In some instances, the collaboration focuses upon removing blocks and filters that dampen one's brilliance and nature. This cleansing reduces the noise in one's life and allows for clarity of individual authenticity.

My study has included intelligent and intellectual teachings from many teachers over the past 40 years including:  Systems Theory from Ludwig von Bertalanffy; Transactional Analysis from Dr. E. Berne, Claude Steiner; Psychotherapy from Carl R. Rogers, Jean Piaget, Carl G. Jung, Fritz Perls, Sidney Jourard, Eugene Gendler, Erik Erikson, Gordon Allport, Viktor Frankl, Stanislov Grof, A. H. Almaas, John Diamond, Roberto Assagioli; Universal Education from Jonah, Hossca Harrison, Joseph Armeanio, Harvey "the Healer", Alan Watts; Family Therapy from Virginia Satir, Salvador Minuchin, Jay Haley, Michael White, Peggy Papp, Bruce Fisher; Somatic and Body Psychotherapy from Wilhelm Reich, Ron Kurtz, Bessel van der Kolk, Stephen W, Porges; Ayurveda and Yoga Psychology from Vasant Lad, Varadaan, Swami Rama, David Frawley; Zen from Osho, Doshin; intelligent kindness from Albert Schweitzer;  Healing Trauma from Peter Levine, Francine Shapiro; and many, many other educators, practitioners and theoreticians.

I have learned much and am grateful to my students and clients for their authentic and expressive teachings about clinical practice, ethics, values, and equality. My gratitude can be shown by integrating these life teachings in my own healing personally, so that professionally I may assist others in their healing journeys.
