How does one shift from being a sensor to a senser?
Most people have been conditioned and are unconsciously sensing as a "sensor" and not as a "senser". In the world of electronics, a sensor is a device that measures a physical quantity and converts it into a signal. This is a one-way flow of communication. Life is not a one-way flow of communication. To be sensing as a sensor is partial sensing because life is giving and receiving. These sensors are not aware of the bonding reciprocity that is occurring through the giving and receiving of flowing energies between the individual and the universal, that is, all that is. These flowing energies are happening now through physical portals where you are individually giving energy forth and receiving energy from life within the physical. Even the energy you sent forth is returning to you.
You are a senser sensing that which is to be sensed. Therefore, in presenting the 5 sensory physical portals of understanding and healing I have chosen to simultaneously present the social portal of attending as an introduction to raising one's ability to allow total sensing rather than partial sensing.
Attending is a social portal where you passively pay attention to the receptive and expressive flowing energies of life in and about you, your mind, and your body. Through attending one is aware of the multi-directional flow of communicating. Attending to giving and receiving energies, moving in, throughout, and about allows attending as a two-way flow of communing. You are standing in the portal knowing you are connecting with the outer flowing in and the inner flowing out while you are always here in a portal of the center of consciousness, the heart of knowing.
Knowing creates! You are not an object, not a belief. Attending is total sensing where the senser is sensing energies and actions to be sensed, nothing more, nothing less. Partial sensing occurs when one's awareness has been blocked, filtered, and conditioned by beliefs, traumatic distress, and learned ignorance (pretending). A fullness of understanding occurs through attending and integrating the physical, the psychological, and the social, with individual innate intelligence.
- Physical sound is heard through the auditory canal, stimulating the auditory nerve, as the sound signal flows through the channels of the body, the ganglion, the brain, and nervous system. Through attending sensing these signals are felt in union with the other senses.
- Psychological sound is associated with the signal as it flows through sensational, emotional, mental, social, and energetic systems forming images, memory networks, and meaning. The original signal undergoes a transformation into active recorded sensory images with effective and affective qualities. These images exist as audio/sound images, tactile/touch images, visual images, taste/flavor images, and smell/aroma images. The images can be recognized, recollected, remembered, organized, and filtered by an identifying and willful image-making process some refer to as the ego.
- Innate intelligence is integrating now through the flowing energies of the individual/universal life-forces' mutual bonding. The universal life force is bonding with all life. (That includes you.) An individual can continue moment to moment awareness (attending) in joining this bonding process. However, the mind can resist these flowing energies and merge into self-deceptive belief systems. Innate intelligence is being coherent, wholly.
Listening is a sensory motoric action, as is touching, seeing, tasting, and smelling. Sound has been chosen to be presented in this discussion as the sensory signal. However, what is being presented is applicable with each of the five sensory organs, sensory channels, and signals of the object being sensed.
In partial listening - sensing, a physical sound (a signal) is penetrating through the ears to the auditory nerve, through the temporal area, through your auditory pathways into your body, into your brain (the recorder) and into your mind. In partial listening the ego, the self, is identifying and observing through its filtered levels of thinking and emoting which act as conditioners, adapting the energy of the physical sounds to psychological and social actions of intent, beliefs, and emotions.
Partial listening unwraps emotions and opinions, packaged as motives, in your body and mind, seeking a fulfillment to an expected outcome. And such unpackaging is occurring while listening partially and merging to the past and present words of those in your relationships, such as parents, friends, wives, husbands, children, teachers, bosses, and others in general that your self is attached to. Perhaps you get upset, fearful, anxious, depressed, jealous, angry, or distressed. This means you are not presently listening; your past memory is listening. When past memory is listening, the listening is bound to be filtered. For example, with the filter of judgement, the listener may judge the speaker, the quality of listening, and the event. Because of the past memory, your mind has beliefs that form your opinions and judgements. The listening then is merging with the past memories and experiences.
In partial listening conclusions prejudge a person, place or thing including one’s own self and their individuality, and even the universal energies comprising the event. These prejudices, based upon preconceptions, are as noise smothering the authentic and present quality of the signal. When the ego filters the experience, it is attaching past meanings, opinions, and emotions while merging past fixated traumatic memories onto what is happening. The energy of listening is no longer happening fully. The signal is contaminated with the actions of memories. The past psychological and social signals are merging and blocking the true and pure signal occurring in the present moment.
Innate intelligence is traded for a need to provide meaning from the intellect to a past condition. This need for meaning is driven by survival-at-all-costs motives, including those of separation, partiality, and division of intellect, including an “us against them” tradition founded in fear based cultural belief systems. In short, peace is traded for war. These noises within the listener contribute to partial listening. Thus, creating a compromised and partial listener unable to authentically listen to the present authentic signal, due to the quality and quantity of the noise of the conditioned self.
Because of the toxic noise in your mind, your body, and about you, a weird self-image is developed about you and about those others you are not authentically listening to. Your memory, your history, your prejudices are “listening”, not you. That is why so often relationships become battlefields of survival consciousness. Partial listening is happening in daily relationships with one another and most importantly with oneself. Empathy is needed first within you towards your identifying process of ego and then through your ego towards you. In so doing, you and yours will be internalizing the integrating and balancing of receiving and giving in exchanging energies and not actions and reactions.
Most individuals are not attending to listening to their own being-ness, their own innate intelligence, their own individuality, and thereby, they are lacking integrity at their core. Without individual integrity, what lies at the core is a belief, which is generating and organizing a core belief syndrome (CBS), perhaps a belief of self-judgement feeding an addiction. When this occurs, they are judging themselves and thereby others.
In partial sensing one is receiving only a portion of the quality of the physical signal being given in the moment. When one is not attending sensing, the core is no longer perceiving the bonding of individual and universal flowing energies. One becomes attached to their beliefs systems (BS) which lowers their frequency of understanding and healing.
Consider this. "While attending sensing one is conscious of receiving that signal which is being given during the receiving. One is giving, through allowing one's own attention in receiving the flowing energies (signals). This is bonding at the core, with the core, as the core, not attaching to anything, as no "thing" is obstructing the mutual bonding of giving/receiving.
Attending to all that is happening now as it moves through the sensory portals is innate intelligence. Allowing one's intelligence to integrate the present with the past attachments is unifying. So how can one learn to listen authentically in the moment? Read on and do the Attending Listening Exercise below.
In total listening - sensing, a sound (signal) enters through the ears to the auditory nerve, through the temporal area, (Marmas 41, 42 of Marma Anatomy) where actual listening is taking place and that sound goes deeper and deeper into the center of consciousness, the heart, and there sound dissolves in the peace. The 4th level of conscious being is listening at the core. This is attending total listening. This is attending sensing whether the signal is that of sound, touch, sight, taste, or smell.
In vedic science “heart” means center of consciousness. This center is a dynamic peace, a living throbbing pulsating existence, a universal tranquility. Sound is not opposite of peace and peace is not opposite of sound. They are not dualities they are dipolarities. I will explain it. A polarity is within the inner space, and a polarity is in outer space and as each is sensed clearly a balance happens in which a medium space, a portal, is entered showing the reality of the consciousness of the ego as one polarity, and a universal connection to a core innate dimension of consciousness which is another polarity. The medium space is non-polar "connecting" the flowing energies of the di-polarity. Therein a felt harmony, containing the balance and the clarity, is happening. Integrity is happening within one’s own being. (Note: it is for each to co-create harmony through clarity and balance.)
When peace is perceived as not opposing sound nor sound opposing peace, that peace, that sound, is pure Awareness. And in that awareness, there is no choice. It is a choice-less state of passive awareness in which sound completely dissolves into the inner silence, the inner beauty, the inner truth of being. That state of listening is called total listening, complete listening.
Usually ones do not listen to anyone, anything, or anybody with this total intense deep listening because they have not been taught to reclaim this ability through knowing and creating a sensing practice.
